My second visit to Texas was to Houston. During my 10 day stay, I was able to visit downtown Houston, Sam Houston National Forest and South-East Texas, as well as Galveston Island.

Houston skyline.

Houston prosperity is also based on oil money.

Hard Rock Cafe.

Sam Houston National Forest road.

Tall cypress trees lining the road.

American Beautyberry (Callicarpa americana) in the woods.

Unidentified caterpillar.

Orange fungus.
Big Creek Scenic Area entrance.

Fallen log. On an earlier visit, I found three or four striped bark scorpions (Centruroides vittatus) under the bark of a fallen log. I also saw a meter-long snake's shed skin. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me that day :(

My big wheels - A Charger, 3.5L High Output. You gotta have a big car in Texas!

Clearing with more cypress trees.

Green anole or Carolina anole (Anolis carolinensis) posing.

The Goatweed Leafwing (Anaea andria) in camouflage.

Deer track. It was hunting season...

Bridge into Galveston Island - the median separator looks like waves and the streetlights resemble seagulls in flight.

Seagull and little sand piper.

Kitesurfing was in on a cloudy November day.

Abandoned motel.

Egret.

Indian blanket (Gaillardia pulchella) and other beach flowers - and a gazillion mosquitoes...

Fisherman's dying catch.

Pelican and ducks at the ferry docks.

Mary Jane fishing boat.

The ferry.

Pelican takeoff...

Fishing boats.

Old Galveston.
Gaido's, famous restaurant in Galveston. I tried their fare and would recommend it to people visiting the island.
